Philosophy

In performing body contouring procedures, it is Dr. Short's goal to shape and contour the patient's body. She believes that it is important to relay to patients that neither liposuction or a "tummy tuck" is a weight loss procedure, and that her goal is to contour. Dr. Short is able to achieve good contour for several reasons, one being that she uses both the internal and external ultrasound-assisted liposuction machines. The advantage is that the fat is actually melted prior to being suctioned, and thus, larger quantities of fat can be removed without leaving the patient with any irregularities. In addition, she uses very small cannulas to suction the fat so there is less risk of the patients being uneven or having skin irregularities. Her intention is not to suction as much fat as possible, which only leaves the patient looking unnatural. Dr. Short  incorporates liposuction into her "tummy tucks" as well. Again, she feels it is important to give the patient good contour, and by liposuctioning the hip area after tightening the stomach muscles, she is able to give the patients a good, natural waistline.

About Dr. Short

Education

Dr. Kimberly Short, a native of Evansville, Indiana attended Indiana University Medical School and continued her residency at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Upon completing her residency, Dr. Short believed that it was important to pursue further cosmetic surgery training in order to offer her patients the latest advances and the best techniques. Therefore, for the next year and a half, Dr. Short trained with both national and international experts in various fields of interest to her, which include breast, body, and facial rejuvenation. Her training has taken her all over the United States and as far as the coast of France, where she received extensive experience in many cosmetic surgery procedures with multiple approaches to each different type of procedure. She was also exposed to many techniques which were on the cutting edge of technology -- techniques which have only been around the last couple of years.

Following her extensive training, Dr. Short and her family settled in Indianapolis where she opened her solo practice. Although Dr. Short realizes that she cannot give her patients 20 years of experience, she can give them experience with the newest, most advanced techniques, and she feels this asset is critical in the practice of plastic surgery because of the continual change and advancements.

In addition, being a female and having had cosmetic surgery herself, Dr. Short is better able to relay to her patients what to expect both pre/post-operatively. She feels it is important to create rapport and trust with all of her patients, and thus, she dedicates much of her time to educating her patients about the procedures they are considering. Dr. Short's gentle, personable approach allows patients to feel very comfortable with her and their decision to pursue a cosmetic procedure.
