Located in Annapolis, MD, our staff of 5 board certified plastic surgeons and anesthesiologists, perform surgeries in an AAAAPSF approved surgical suite. Your decision to have cosmetic plastic or reconstructive surgery should be a positive and fulfilling experience and your safety is paramount. Performing liposuction, male breast reduction, tummy tucks and mommy makeovers - we are a comprehensive practice to help you make the right decision for your body.

A tummy tuck, technically known as an abdominoplasty, is a major surgical procedure performed to remove excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen and to tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall. When we assess a patient for tummy tuck, we check for excess wrinkled skin and fat on the abdomen and/or weakened abdominal muscles caused by pregnancy, aging or significant weight loss. Women are usually the candidates but some men suffer from the latter issues as well.

The intended result of tummy tuck is a firmer abdominal wall, a narrower waistline, a flatter lower abdomen and a more attractive physical shape in and out of clothing. The abdominoplasty procedure is performed under general anesthesia administered by an M.D. anesthesiologist or certified registered nurse anesthetist in the outpatient surgery center in our office, with no overnight stay. In some instances, depending on the extent of the operation, tummy tuck is performed in a local hospital. Our plastic surgeons make a bikini-line incision across the lower abdomen to access the surgery-area. Excess skin and fat are removed and the abdominal muscles are tightened.

The recovery from a tummy tuck allows for a patient goes home wearing a firm elastic garment. A light support garment is recommended for two to three weeks. It may be removed for brief periods to shower. There will be some post-operative pain for a few days but it is easily controlled by medication. Sutures are invisible under the skin and will dissolve when healing is complete. Liposuction is often used with a tummy tuck to create a better body contour.
