Lipoplasty Philosophy
Liposuction removes localized fat deposits from beneath the skin. Ideal areas are those that do not respond to diet and exercise such as love handles, saddle bags, double chins and that spare tire in the middle.
Lipoplasty is not a weight reduction procedure and I will not operate on obese or grossly overweight patients because it is too dangerous. Liposuction also does not improve skin and can make conditions such as cellulite; cottage cheese like skin dimpling worse.
Ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty is excellent for fibrous areas such as male breasts, love handles, and backs because it selectively implodes fat cells sparing neighboring tissue. This procedure must be performed in a fluid environment better known as tumescence that I use for both traditional and ultrasound cases to limit blood loss.
