Laser Surgery
Using advanced laser technology, surgeons at Minneapolis Plastic Surgery are able to remove birthmarks, age spots and freckles, and perform other types of cosmetic surgery. The advantage of laser technology is that there is minimal scarring and no blood loss. CO2 or Erbium/YAG laser skin resurfacing is the most modern treatment for facial lines and wrinkles, although some patients prefer a chemical peel or dermabrasion. It is used to improve acne scarring and sun-damaged skin, as well as minimize deep laugh lines and frown lines, and eliminate fine facial wrinkles.
During the procedure, the topmost layers of the skin are precisely vaporized by the laser, while the secondary layer contracts. Healing creates a smooth, tighter surface with a rejuvenated skin surface. The procedure is performed on an out-patient basis, using sedation or light anesthetic. Normally the procedure takes about one hour. Swelling is noticed for a week or so. Redness may also persist for several weeks to months, but can be camouflaged with makeup within two weeks.
