Dr. Mark D. Epstein, located in Stony Brook, Long Island, is a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience in the area of body contouring. Dr. Epstein has performed thousands of plastic surgery procedures since receiving his medical degree in 1984. He holds numerous board certifications, including the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and is a member of several prestigious professional organizations.

Dr. Epstein performs body contouring procedures such as liposuction, VASER lipo, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) and male breast reduction (gynecomastia). Dr. Epstein uses several different methods of liposuction, Ultra-sound assisted and suction-assisted lipectomy. For both of these methods, a fluid is injected into the targeted area; an inconspicuous incision is then made. A cannula is then inserted to break up the layers of fat and suction it out. VASER is another form of liposuction that combines new patented technology with advanced surgical techniques. Ultimately, the reason for using VASER would be to decrease the amount of bruising, bleeding and pain, and the results also tend to be smoother than that of traditional liposuction techniques. Ultrasound energy is used to eliminate fat, while nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue go largely undisturbed. Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is also a very popular procedure performed by Dr. Epstein. In this procedure excess skin and fat are removed and the abdominal muscles are tightened. This leaves the abdomen and waist area much flatter and better shaped. Finally, although it is not often spoken about, enlarged male breasts are very common, effecting approximately 40%-60% of men. Dr. Epstein is able to remove fat and/or glandular tissue from the breasts. In rare cases skin is removed as well. The results have men’s breasts looking much flatter and firmer.
